Today I was going through my records (as in vinyl records) listening to some of the 45's I purchased from Third Man Records, Jack White's record label... Jack White, what a guy. And lo, I found a "secret" message in the dead wax (the space between the actual grooves of the record and the label.) The particular record I was looking at was the b side of a 7 in. featuring The White Stripes playing Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and there in the dead wax in small, hand-etched, block letters it said "PW. KNOWS THE TRUTH." I became incredibly intrigued to delicately hold up each record from Third Man to a lamp, in a very specific angle, to read these little messages, which took some doing. Some of them make complete sense, relating to the song or specific to Jack White.... I'm sure I'm not the first one to discover this and won't be the last, but it's just one of those weird, "macabre" type things that is identifiable and synonymous with Mr. White. I am such a fan....
Anyway, here's what I found.
The White Stripes
White Blood Cells- A side- "THE LITTLE ROOM IS SPINNING"
B side- "WHERE ELSE CAN THEY GO?"
A side, Hello Operator- "300 PEOPLE CHEERING OUT IN WEST VIRGINIA (1971)"
B side, Jolene "PW KNOWS THE TRUTH"
A side, Hello operator and Look Me Over Closely- each had words, but they were then scribbled out. Hmmmmm......
A side, Lord, Send Me An Angel "DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE TICKET AGENT"
B side, You're Pretty Good Looking "WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT WAS CALLED AUTO TUNE"
Conan O'Brien
A side- And They Call Me Mad- "WAS SERIOUSLY A MIC TEST." B side- Conan O'Brien interview with Jack White- "MORE TO COME"
Jack White
A side, Love Interruption-"NOBODY DUET LIKE RUBY FU DO."
B side, Machine Gun Silhouette- "RE. RE. RE."
A side, Freedom at 21- it strangely didn't have a message
B side, Inacessible Mystery "BEND MY BACK OVER."
A side, Sixteen Saltines- "KNACKERED AND CREAM CRACKERED"
B side, Love is Blindness "SPRING TIME FOR HITLER."
Blunderbuss- A side-"FOR SHAME DOG, SHOOTIN RABBITS WITH AN ELEPHANT GUN"
B side- "I'M NOT AT LIBERTY TO SAY"
I just found this extremely interesting... hope you did too.
